This simple corner bookmark felt craft is a fun way for kids to learn and practice simple sewing skills. Plus these bookmarks make a great handmade gift!
I still remember the days that I spent sitting in my grandparents’ living room while my grandma taught me how to sew. They are some of my most favorite childhood memories. And while these days, I use my sewing machine for pretty much everything, it’s still fun to do a little hand-sewing project every once in awhile.
These corner bookmarks are made from basic pieces of felt that are super inexpensive at the craft store. It’s one of those supplies that I have way too much of because I always buy a few each time I’m at the store, “just in case” I need them for a project.
How to make felt corner bookmarks
Supplies
sheets of felt in a variety of colors
embroidery thread
large sewing needle
scissors
embellishments: buttons, glitter glue, paint markers
Directions
Using the book corner as a template, cut out two triangles from the felt.
Thread the needle with a long piece of embroidery thread. Starting at one of the top corners, sew the two pieces of felt together along the side using a running stitch. Then sew back up the other side and knot the thread to secure.
Now for the fun part! Embellish the bookmark with buttons, little embroidered stitches in different color thread, glitter glue, or even personalize it with a name using a paint marker!
Wrap one up with a favorite book or bookstore gift card to give as a fun, homemade gift!
